Saintes is a very nice city that I didn’t know till now. We had the chance to spend a nice weekend there and enjoy the calm. Saintes is only 43 km from Royan, a beach city. Here is my list of things to do in Saintes, if you decide to spend the weekend there.
- Visit the Roman Gallo amphitheater : one of the best conserved in France, this place is a must-see in Saintes. It is opened to visits during the whole year. You can be sure to be impressed by the beauty of this place, dating from around 40 yeas before JC.
- Discovering the city center and the Germanicus arch : having a nice walk in the city-center of Saintes. So cozy and nice, during the summer period, you can be sure to find an animation for you but also for your children.
- Tea time at La Musardière and dinner at Cass la Graine : after a walk in the city center of Saintes, a coffee break is a mandatory part. For that, nothing better than a chocolate cake with an orange juice, in a calm and unique ambiance you will find at La Musardière. At this place, you can also have lunch or dinner.
For a fat dinner, with delicious home made french fries and baked camembert cheese, I highly recommend Cass la Graine. Their fries are really homemade and so tasty. And for beer-lovers, there is a bar with more than300 beers, just next to Cass la Graine.
We spend the weekend of 14th July in Saintes, so we had the chance to find this military camp. While walking in the city, we also find this nice graffiti walls, so photo session was a mandatory part.
